Comped is short for complimentary. Which is a perk for your play. Free stuff. If you consider that I was gonna play the machine anyway. As we all know, nothing is FREE. Most places will give out certain things as long as you are playing maximum coin in, and play for X amount of time. This is set by management and will vary from place to place. You can ask what you will receive for your play, and I'm sure that they will be happy to tell you. Obviously bars and restaurants are more likely to have more comps to give you than say a market or grocery store. I have known of several places that will comp complete meals and beverages for play, and they will smile even when you've eaten everything and hit their progressive. You may find this hard to believe, but they want you to hit them. It's just good business. Word of mouth spreads quick when they hit.

A progressive is a jackpot that builds until that particular jackpot combination is hit. It may be a single machine or several machines that build a jackpot. In video poker that combination is the Royal Flush, although sometimes machine(s) will feature more than just one progressive combination. Some machines also feature a progressive for certain four of a kind combos as well. |

Coin in is the number needed to hit the progressive jackpot. Also known as Max Coin. You must play the max coin in if you want to be paid for the largest jackpot. The machine will still play the same on fewer coins, but you will not be rewarded the largest jackpot even if you hit the necessary combination for that jackpot unless you have played the maximum coins. |

A paytable is what the machine will pay back for hitting a certain combination. Video Poker machines list their payoffs in plan sight so you know what you will get when a certain combination appears. For example: a full house pays 9 coins, and a flush pays 5 coins. When you play the maximum coins that translates to 5x9 = 45, and 5x5= 25. You can easily see these figures above the cards when you look at a video poker machine. You will see a different pay table for each coin in that will multiply the initial figures by the number of coins played.
Since it's listed in plan sight it is up to you to play the one that best suits your expectations. You will most likely hit more 2 pair and 3 of a kind than 4 of a kind, so pick the machines that pay better for those whenever possible. Certain games will also have better 4 of a kind pay tables. Take a moment to look at these before you play. As a general rule I always go for the one with the highest 4 of a kind payoffs just in case I hit those, but this is my way, not always the right way. |

The short answer is paytable.
They have chosen a game that has a paytable that is favorable for the house on all areas except the Jackpot. You will find that most of the other games have a more player favored paytable, but have no progressive Jackpot. The house is willing to take this risk, and pay the higher jackpot since it expects to take in more than it will give back for the lifetime of that machine. |

The odds of hitting a royal flush on the first 5 cards dealt are 649,000 to 1. There are only 4 of them in a standard 52 card deck. A Royal Flush is 10,J,Q,K,A in either Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, or Spades. Video poker is a draw game so you have better odds than that and for those odds I would suggest looking them up @wizardofodds.com.
Again I can't promise that you will hit one. I know people who claim to have played for years without ever hitting one. I can only tell you that I have hit many in my lifetime and have the slips and pictures to prove it. |

The answer is Yes.
Like so many things in life it is very easy to overdue. I have witnessed countless people going overboard when a jackpot is so incredibly high. I can only say that you should find a limit and stick with that. It is not only sad to witness someone who has over done it, it's also financially crippling for them as well. Just because it can happen, doesn't mean it's going to happen right now. People can play for hours on end and not hit a jackpot of any kind. All I'm saying is don't lose the house because you think it's overdue to hit the big one. Go in with the amount you are willing to spend, and when that is done. Leave. |

NO
The gaming commission does a fine job of inspecting machines, and if an establishment was found to have a rigged game I'm sure they would lose their gaming license and also pay a large fine. Lets face it. It would be bad business all the way around to have a rigged game anyway. Word of mouth travels and draws people to places. If someone suspected that they were being cheated the bad publicity alone wouldn't be worth it.
Each machine has an internal Random Number Generator (RNG) and sometimes you get lucky and it all seems to go your way, and then other times no matter how you try nothing seems to work out the way you want it. Gambling is timing. The right move at the right time and you can be the luckiest person at that moment. You can't force something to happen. Either it's in the cards or it's not. Pun intended. |
